I jinxed myself.
I said that vectoring was going well/wasn't that hard. Well, now I've sat down and looked at them again, they are awful and I am so worried.
I want to commit to the task but I can't submit these!
There's no alternative. I HAVE to work with vectors but there is no way to make them look like anything other than flat, bare shapes.
This morning we looked at colour in Vis Lang, so I'm wondering whether actually thinking about colour in these postcards could bring some magic back to them.
Using Adobe Color to try and figure out some groovy colour schemes. I'm wanting pastel, 60's kitsch.
This tool is awesomesauceum. Favourited this! Definitely using this again.
Does the tent look too much like a flag? Just spending so long fiddling about on screen and I'm not sure if I'm supposed to be doing this in my sketchbook. This process is boggling my braincells. I don't have a clue if what I'm doing is right. I take a break, look at it again, and feel so disappointed in myself for the trash I've produced.
Shout out to Brontz and Swan for being absolute stars. Every two minutes I ask for their opinion but having that peer contact and almost mini-crits within the studio is really helpful for all of us. With these independent studio development days, the whole studio environment is becoming really close. Speaking to peeps I've not really spoke to much before, just sharing thoughts and feeding back as we pass each other's work in the room.
Skin tone too grey and needs a background! Is this composition too simple? Nothing is really going on. Do we need to see the WHOLE bike? Maybe just the wheels or the handlebars? I like his little moustache and I've used characters in all of the other postcards so if I don't in this one it won't really work in the series as well.
Boring. Back to the drawing board. Re-sketched this one in my book and I'm thinking that this one should focus more on the TRANSACTION. Lady handing fish over.
I'm tired and I want this brief to be over already. I understand why it's useful and what I'm learning from it... I guess my vectors are improving as I work with them longer (despite how they're getting more complex with every alteration)... but I am still not a digital gal and I don't want to be one.
