Distraction

When I read the word 'distraction', I instantly thought of magic and the tricks of magicians like Houdini.
I wanted to learn a little more about this subject because I found the idea really interesting.

'Misdirection' is what magicians use to distract the audience from the reality of their tricks.
Deception.

"Nearly the whole art of sleight of hand depends on this art of misdirection." (Harlan Tarbell, The Tarbell Course in Magic Vol. 1)

"The central secret of conjuring...is a manipulation of interest." (Henry Hay, The Amateur Magicians Handbook, pg. 2, copyright 1972).
