Decision Time

Alphabet Poster peer review session.
I'd been so nervous about today, worrying that my work would be inferior compared to the rest of my classmates. I struggle with critiques, but I was feeling strong this morning and approached the task with an open mind.
We were advised to pair with somebody who we'd not yet spoken to. I partnered with Alex Patrick, who I'd only met briefly before. I'd seen Alex's work online before, but never heard her speak about it in person.
I was excited to see what topics Alex had come up with and how she had responded to the brief.

Peer review with Alex (AP)

What Alex liked about my project:
A wide range of ideas (over 26 different topics explored).
Imaginative and unusual themes.
Character design.
Lots of research.
Mistakes. Lots of them. Corrections and re-visiting 'failed' ideas.

What she wanted to see more of:
Consideration of colour and media.
More drawing.
No scrapping ideas. Keep them all. It's all progress!

What I have learned from Alex's work:
Alex has understood and experimented with colour.
Alex's work is playful and humorous.
Established a tone of voice that speaks without the need for labels or descriptions.
Coloured pencils - a very simple tool to use but she has mastered it and made some lovely drawings with these!

Decisions

It's decision time. I'm the worst at decisions.
Which theme would I like to bring forward and develop further?
Listening to Alex's advice, she really enjoyed the concept of an instructional poster about being Mindful, but also liked the character design of the Phases of Bowie Poster.
I think that the Bowie concept is too simple and the overall product would be too character-driven and not be inventive or varied enough. It would be too repetitive and lacking in meaning.
I have similar concerns with the 'Things Morrissey is Miserable About' poster.
The theme that I think would be the most FUN to continue researching and visually creating would be the Circus theme. I think that this theme has the potential to become a really exciting poster. It would make sense as a poster, a mock advertisement. It wouldn't have the issues of lacking content because the theme is broad enough to explore both characters, objects and events.
I found some similarly-themed images on Pinterest:
