My brain has turned into alphabet spaghetti.
I look around a room and only see letters. I shout "BINGO!" when I spot a word that matches a gap in my notebook. I wake up in the middle of the night, reaching for a scrap of paper. I've seen the word in my dream. I've found myself scribbling down words in the strangest of places, terrified to lose this idea.
Developing the Bowie idea. I really like this concept, but I need to move on and away.
I need to branch out and develop alternative themes.
My dad, a huge Bowie fan, helped me to fill in the missing letters. What a starman!
I will do further research into each letter, finding images and photos of Bowie from each of these 'eras'.
I tried to brainstorm things that art students (my audience) would want as a poster in their room. Witchcraft and boho-chic seem to be a big trend at the moment, so I played about with making a similarly themed poster. Above is an 'A-Z OF WITCHCRAFT' plan. This is something I'd personally love in my room and would be visually exciting.
Speaking to my peers, I discovered that 'vintage' is very 'in' and stylish. Many of my friends said that they search internet shops for items featuring vintage style illustrations or prints. Alytsia told me about her passion for Victorian style circus art.
Above is a plan for an alphabet circus, featuring vintage circus and carnival amusements. Although I'm terrfified of clowns, this vintage carnival theme really interests me and I'd love to research further into the topic, learning more about the history.
Another theme I explored was a 'Pirate's Alphabet'. Beginning with the obvious 'x marks the spot', I wondered how far I could stretch the brief into the thing that interests me most: storytelling. Perhaps not something that my intended audience would appreciate in this childish style. Maybe need to Johnny Depp it up a little!
I really liked the idea of giving directions or listing rules on this poster, rather than just items.
Above is a very POSITIVE lifestyle how-to plan. How to be more zen.
Something that would be really sweet and motivational for a student to have on their wall.
Another adventure story idea. This time, an 'Explorer's Alphabet'. This is again perhaps not appropriate for my intended audience, but I personally really love it! It has scope for character development and a really fun narrative could unfold. Potential for humour too.
This is one that my audience will really GET. They can probably ALL relate to this huge teenage phase, prominent in our naughties-teen generation.
Be sensitive and although mocking, do NOT be offensive or rude.
