Group Crit - Initial Research

It's great to see so much enthusiasm and passion within the room!
It is obvious that INTEREST is the basis of these projects and that the people who are truly excited by their subject have been going out of their way to find out more.

As a group, we discussed how important it is to consider pacing, using words and perspective.

How well has the illustrator made sense of the field trip? What are you impressed with?
Lots of research
primary and secondary research
interesting quotes
collecting things could be a good path to go down

more drawing
draw from photos

I didn't have much drawing to present, but I did explain all of the research I had found so far.
I brought my found objects, the shards of ceramics from the summit of Herleshow.
I showed the group my photographs retold the story of my journey to the forgotten tower.
My group was impressed with the amount of research I had collected, but they wanted to see more drawing.
I've spent a lot of time researching but I do need to move on now. I will continue to find information about the subject, but I must create some drawings in response to what I have found.

Louis had taken his sketchbook and done lots of drawing on location. Although he wasn't completely sure on his concept, this was being driven by his drawing and image making.

variety of secondary research - people, internet, library

We all discussed a struggle with the 'people' strand of research. Strangers don't have the time to stop and talk to you and when they do they can hold back or just not be much help! Neneh spoke to people in Knarseborough and felt that there was a much stronger sense of community here in that she managed to speak in depth to a couple for a long period of time, whereas in Leeds people don't even smile when the pass on the street.

Which proposed themes/concepts/narratives at this point do you feel has the most potential for further development? And why?
Explore more with drawing - see what works best
Narrow it down to one story

"bleak" is a possible tone that I could weave into my narrative. My peers used this word several times in reponse to my photographs. Is it just because of the weather or is the Gothic tower itself what makes the scene bleak?

What would be your next steps if this was your project?
Go back and do more drawing!
Find out more stuff
Talk to people there

Can you identify any issues with this research? Is it too complex? Vague? Lacking intent?
Just more drawing
More people aspect
Good stuff!
